As Luck Would Have It…

Score one for the good guys!
I’ve managed to catch some sort of nutty bacterial infection that has inflated my schnozz to Jimmy Durante-like proportions that is contagious on the very same day that ESPN’s 24 hour college hoops marathon tipped off. My doctor said I needed to stay home for a couple days so [...]

It’s On In Vegas

Tomorrow night at 9:00PM EST. St. Mary’s vs Gonzaga for all the marbles in the West Coast Conference. If you haven’t gotten your March Madness on yet, then I highly recommend you get it on Monday night.
Gonzaga demolished Santa Clara 94-59 tonight while St. Mary’s put Portland away with a game-ending [...]

Staying Alive…

St. Mary’s emphatic 75-64 win over 23rd-ranked Utah State could very well be the win that gets them off the bubble and securely into the field of 65. Mickey McConnell, subbing in for the injured Patty Mills, nailed 6-of-8 shots and the Gaels ‘Omar Samhan got the best of Aggies’ big Gary Wilkinson — [...]

Game-Blogging: Gaels Getting the Best of Gonzaga

St. Mary’s has a 39-33 lead over the Bulldogs in this scrap between nationally-ranked West Coast Conference and college hoops heavyweights. Simply put, this has been one of the best halves of college hoops played this season. Between the frenzied Kennel crowd, and the superstars from both teams having great games — The [...]

Not Ready For Primetime Part Deux

Has San Diego every shit the bed in tonights highly anticipated — by me at least — West Coast Conference scrap with 22nd-ranked St. Mary’s. Judged by their identical 4-0 records in WCC play, the Toreros versus Gaels seemed like it would be a heavyweight tilt. Especially since San Diego won the last [...]

Bubble Teams Beware…

Behind the second-half sharpshooting of dynamic junior guard Brandon Johnson, San Diego’s making a late run at St. Mary’s in the West Coast Conference semis. The Gaels are up 52-50 with a bit less than two minutes to play but big mo’ is on the side of the Toreros

Pick Of The Day: Go With The Gaels

I’ve only bet on Mid-Major college hoops this season so I can’t speak to how the oddsmakers have done setting lines when it comes to the BCS leagues or the NBA. Based on my experience this season, it seems like when it comes to the Mid-Majors, the lines are totally random. Just take our record of 13-6 in POTD this season.

We’re new to this whole betting on college hoops things and, while we are trying to build a system that increases one’s chances of getting it right when it comes to betting on Mid-Major hoops, the fact is don’t do any quantitative analytics when we make our picks. We just look at the lines, wonder what the fuck is up, and place the bet. And it works.

MAC Nightcap: Fear The System

Prior to the game, Kent State coach Jim Christian passed out shirts to his squad that read “Trust the System.” The Kent State system of physical, in your face D and precise O that showcases the Golden Flashes big-time players was like clockwork tonight, as the Golden Flashes smothered St. Mary’s shooters while Al Fisher made big shot after big shot. Incredibly enough, the win over the Gaels was their first-ever regular season win over a ranked opponent.

Christian may want his players to trust the system but whoever it is that Kent State draws in the Big Dance would be better off fearing the system.
