Daily Fix: Another Wasted Night

Legendary Boston hardcore/skate punk band Gang Green’s most famous song is “Another Wasted Night,” in which they rock out as they recount how their constant drunken hooliganism renders each and every night the same indistinguishable haze of blackouts and buffoonery.

While the analogy isn’t perfect, I can’t help but think that watching the NBA Eastern and Western Conference finals is just another wasted night.

It’s Too Early To Say…

That we’re saved from yet another San Antonio Spurs appearance in the NBA Finals but the Lakers’ mammoth comeback in game one of the Western Conference finals is a giant leap in the right direction. Like usual, Kobe was the man, carrying Los Angeles to the 89-85 dubbya but, as has become the norm [...]

So Much For…

The Lakers saving us from an NBA Finals that would be duller than a weekend in Salt Lake and uglier than Katherine Harris without makeup — incredibly enough, I’m certain she’s even more hideous when not covered in CVS cosmetics than with — since Los Angeles is trailing San Antonio 68-61 with a bit more [...]

Daily Fix: Why Won’t San Antonio Go Away?

Like a case of herpes, the San Antonio Spurs just won’t go away. Somehow, it seemed like this just might be the season that hoops fans would be spared from watching this whiny, duller than a bowling ball, group of cheap shot artists play deep into the playoffs. After all, the upstart N’awlins Hornets spanked them in the first two games of their Western Conference series, as the Spurs seemed to have no answer for Chris Paul and David West and Tyson Chandler were holding it down inside.

Unfortunately, youth was not served and San Antonio fought back to knot the series before winning game seven 91-82 to advance to face Kobe & Co. in the Western Conference Finals.

Daily Fix: Shaq(led) by Los Angeles

Let me get this out of the way: I have an immense dislike for the Los Angeles Lakers. I wish Big Chief Triangle and Kobe Bryant would come home to find their LaLa Land McMansions infested with the worst case of bedbugs in history. So, I got no joy from watching the Lakers dispatch the Suns 130-124 in Shaq’s first game as a Sun. And I get even less joy from proclaiming the Lakers favorites to win the NBA title.
