Legendary Boston hardcore/skate punk band Gang Green’s most famous song is “Another Wasted Night,” in which they rock out as they recount how their constant drunken hooliganism renders each and every night the same indistinguishable haze of blackouts and buffoonery.
While the analogy isn’t perfect, I can’t help but think that watching the NBA Eastern and Western Conference finals is just another wasted night.

I ain’t saying shit about the Eastern Conference finals until one of the two lethargic, brick-heaving sides involved breaks 90. It didn’t happen tonight and I doubt it will happen at all during this series.

Don’t give me shit about how great the D is being played by the Cavs and Celtics. These are just two teams that can string more than a pass or two together and consistently blow layups and brick jumpers.
For the record, King James and Company had all of 10 dimes tonight to go along with 14 turnovers, which makes sense since LeBron turned the rock over 8 times himself.

I’m sick of being told that the reason no team in the Eastern Conference semis can score more points in an entire game than the average WNBA team does is an half is because of the intense defense. That’s just not what’s going on in the East at all. Instead of forcing fans to suffer through countless slugfests played in the 80s, the NBA ought to just save us the trouble and flip a coin to determine which offensively-challenged Eastern Conference team gets to play in the Finals.
This isn’t about defense; it’s about the Eastern Conference being rubbish.
