The 2009 MAC tournament tips off today with four games, featuring teams seeded 5 through 12. We’re going to pick the winners in each of those four games.

Game 1: #7 Central Michigan (7-9, 11-18) vs #10 Eastern Michigan (6-10, 8-23)
Vegas Says: Chipps by 3
What We Say: Straight-up, we Central Michigan is going to win this one. However, Charles Ramsey’s Eagles, once left for dead, have been playing some relatively inspired ball down the stretch and they can keep this one close. Take EMU plus the points.

Game 2: #6 Kent State (10-6, 18-13) vs Northern Illinois (5-11, 10-19)
Vegas Says: Golden Flashes by 12
What We Say: MAC tourney-tested Kent State certainly didn’t expect to be playing in the pre-quarterfinals when the season began, yet that’s where they are. As for the Huskies, they’re just plain bad. Sundays’ season ending loss to Toledo was particularly uninspiring. Take Al Fisher and company to cover the 12 points against NIU.

Game 3: #8 Western Michigan (7-9, 10-20) vs #9 Ohio (7-9, 14-16)
Vegas Says: Bobcats by 3.5
What We Say: Speaking of being uninspiring Sunday, Ohio was a no-show against Bowling Green, suffering an embarrassing 75-41 beatdown at the hands of the Falcons. The Broncos also lost Sunday, finishing the season in a 1-4 tailspin. These teams met once this season and WMU routed Ohio 76-62. Take the Broncos plus the points, but Ohio will pull this one out in the end.

Game 4: #5 Akron (10-6, 19-12) vs #12 Toledo (5-11, 7-24)
Vegas Says: Zips by 13
What We Say: Akron’s kind of a puzzle; just when it seems the Zips are about to get on a run, they go cadaver cold from the field and lose games they should win. There is nothing puzzling about the Rockets; they’ve been the worst team in a league suffering through a terrible season. However, they head to Clevo on a modest run (by Toledo and MAC standards), having gone 2-1 in their last three games. They won’t have enough to beat Akron straight-up, but take Toledo plus the 13 points. I don’t think Akron’s covered a double digit spread all season.
