This Blows

I knew things would be bad, but it’s not fun to actually see it come true. Not by a long stretch. As if the MAC’s wretched pre-conference play performance wasn’t enough, we had to go and produce two gems on TV (one not seen by anyone because it was on ESPN U): Buffalo getting worked at Vermont and Miami getting absolutely embarrassed at Evansville.

At least Central and Ball State found ways to win their home contests. Western Michigan? Not so much. Then again, Eastern Illinois is 8-8 in the Ohio Valley. Bowling Green? Nah. Let’s help Canisius get that much closer to win #10!

Folks, we’ve hit rock bottom. There really isn’t much lower to go from here without slipping out of complete relevance in D-I. And if that happens, well, we all have a lot less to worry about, don’t we? (Actually, that would put me out of a job. So I’m gonna hope this rock holds.)

But don’t worry! The long, hard quest starts tonight! We have three more MAC/OVC clashes: Ohio at Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State at Kent and Northern Illinois at SE Missouri State (a great choice for parents looking for a punishment for unruly children). We will find out who the true mediocre mid-major between the Missouri Valley and the Atlantic 14 is!

As I write this, Eastern Michigan falls at home to Georgia State. Akron, save us!
