Another night and another pair of crushing routs for the MAC West sides in cross-division play.
Miami (6-2, 13-7) dismantled Ball State (5-3, 10-10), the West’s best team, 59-41, in a game that I thought would be a lot closer. Instead, it seems that the Cardinals couldn’t handle Michael Bramos — few teams in the MAC can — and just fell apart on offense when faced with Miami’s grinding D.
(Note to Buffalo fans — we can officially start to worry about that second go-round with Miami, as well as any potential MAC tourney meetings with the Redhawks.)
While the second place side in the West, Western Michigan (4-4, 7-14) kept it a bit closer in it’s scrap with Bowling Green (4-4, 12-9) tonight, the fact is the Broncos still came up short, losing 68-61.
(Note to UB Bulls fans: We don’t need to worry about the Falcons quite like we do the Redhawks, but we should be wary. Especially if Nate Miller and Otis Polk keep playing like this.)
Tonight’s two defeats dropped the MAC West to an astoundingly non-competitive 2-15 in games versus foes from the East division. However, relieve may be in sight, as Ohio (3-4, 10-10), losers of two in a row to teams from the West, plays host to Northern Illinois (2-5, 6-13).
