In yet another game that set basketball back about 100 years, the Cleveland Cavaliers outlasted Boston 74-69 to force a game seven that nobody in their right mind should want to watch. Don’t give me shit about how great the D is being played by the Cavs and Celtics. These are just two teams that can string more than a pass or two together and consistently blow layups and brick jumpers.
For the record, King James and Company had all of 10 dimes tonight to go along with 14 turnovers, which makes sense since LeBron turned the rock over 8 times himself. Boston did a little better taking care of the rock, combining for 19 dimes and 17 turnovers. But still, how can a team with three All-Stars and one player who might rank among the best of all-time, turn the ball over 17 times in a playoff game? It’s mind-blowing yet, somehow, the piss-poor passing and negligence with the ball wasn’t even the worst part of this game. The inability of either team to make shots was.
Both teams shot under 40% — Cleveland was a ghastly 33% — but that hardly begins to tell the tale of just how brutal both the Cavs and Celtics were on the offensive end tonight and in this series. Both teams, including the four superstars, have butchered every facet of offensive basketball.
Usually, a game seven in an NBA playoff series is a must-see event. Not so when the Cavs and Celtics are getting it on. There’s really no reason anybody without a direct rooting interest should be camped in front of the telly watching game seven on Sunday.
The good news is that this series ends on Sunday. The bad news is that San Antonio’s still around and that an Eastern Conference team will have to play in the Finals.
