Daily Fix: The Coronation In Clevo

Clevo Gets Its Wish

I don’t really need to respond to GGW’s most recent post for numerous reasons but I’m going to briefly address his most insane ad hominen attacks just because.

Basketball is a team game. If you don’t believe me ask Kobe, who’s most recent puerile outburst was the product of him belatedly realizing he can’t win alone after 11 fucking years in the league. To the King’s everlasting credit, he’s known this almost since day one.

Take tonight’s series clinching 98-82 thrashing of Detroit, a win that sends ‘Bron’s Cavs charging into their first-ever NBA Finals.

Rather than forcing himself into the flow of the game like Kobe does, ‘Bron read the game and reacted. Seeing that teammate Daniel Gibson, a rookie whom I pegged as Clevo’s emerging second option in an email to work colleagues on Friday, was channeling Reggie Miller, the King played Mario Battali and fed Gibson like he was Kobayashi. Thanks to ‘Bron’s selflessness, Gibson paced the Cavs with 31 points while James dished out a game-high eight dimes.

And now King James & Co. stand ready to challenge the San Antonio Spurs, the most reviled and least-liked team in NBA history, for the NBA title. While I should be counting my lucky stars that James saved me from a Pistons-Spurs Finals, I’m not.

Instead, I’m counting on the King to use his unique and dazzling ability to read a game to lead the Cavs to a seven game upset of the Spurs. Any result other than that and I’m likely to show up at NBA HQ and challenge both David Stern and Stu Jackson to a fight.

And to get back to my other fight, the one with GGW, Clevo won this series because of what ‘Bron did in game one not in spite of it. The pass to Donyell Marshall demonstrated his trust in his teammates, which, in turn, galvanized them to hop on ‘Bron’s back and ride him to the NBA Finals. Except that didn’t happen since knowing ‘Bron believed in them and had their back, the rest of the Cavs felt free to do whatever it is that they do to win games.

In the case of rookie Gibson that mean’s making triples the way he did on Saturday, draining all five of his treys, to carry the Cavs to the finish line.

Had ‘Bron not shown his selflessness in game one, it’s unlikely Gibson would’ve felt comfortable enough to throw up five triples in what was essentially a must-win game for Clevo.

Unfortunately, and as much as I hate to say it, by beating the Pistons, the Cavs have earned the privilege of getting waxed by San Antonio in six games.

That being said, I’m counting on ‘Bron to make it semi-compelling. You know, like a rerun of Seinfeld.
