He Burned Down The Palace!

I would like to thank LeBron for settling the debate that TC and I had been having about Game 1. I actually wrote a rather lengthy post on the subject which never got published due to technical difficulties (I suspect TC of foul play). But lets get to the point. TC argued that LBJ was right to pass up a dunk in order to go for the win in game 1. A major part of his rational was that Clevo couldn’t possibly win an OT game at Detroit. Well, James proved that he was wrong on both accounts.

What a performance! The guy scored the last 25 in a row, 29 of the last 30. He overcame frequent double teams and terrible coaching by Mike Brown to win the game for his team. How bad is Brown? The game should have been over after one OT, but Brown had wasted two timeouts with left the Cavs with no chance to get a final shot. As Bill Simmons said “when you are getting worked like a speed bag by Flip Saunders you know you’re in over your head.”

Folks, we witnessed something special tonight. This was a great player coming through in a huge game. But, the interesting thing is that I don’t think this performance is possible without his failure earlier in the series. You could tell he was recalling Game 1 as he slammed home the two dunks to send the game to OT. His teammates put him in a position to win the game and he finally recognized that it is his responsibility to win it. Role players, who play ten minutes per game are not going to come in and win playoff games for you, especially on the road!
